Summer 2015. Ed participated in the Engineering Summer Exploration Program for high school students this year. Students learned how to make a "bubble raft model" of a 2D crystal structure using soap bubbles on the surface of water. Defects observed in real crystals, such as vacancies and dislocations, are clearly visible in the raft model. Reference: Bragg, L. and Nye, J. F. (1947) Proc. R. Soc. Lond. A 190 (1023): 474–481
